I don’t believe the scriptures are the inerrant word or God. Scripture may be called inspired or ‘God-breathed’, but if we acknowledge that God respects our free-will (which He consistently does throughout scriptural accounts) then scripture is necessarily imperfect human understanding.
There are many gross misrepresentations of God in scripture (including some that make God look blood-thirsty and genocidal), but God’s true character is revealed in Jesus, who is the Son of God. This also explains why there are 4 gospels; each gospels differs in minor aspects (which actually lends to its historic credibility), but then the central aspects of Jesus and his teaching and have multiple attestation.
